NEC has been shortlisted for the Irish Healthcare Awards 2024 in the category of ‘Innovation in Health Care & Medicine’. This recognition comes on the heels of our successful contract renewal with the HSE to run the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening programme in Ireland, which we have expertly managed since 2013.
Our nomination highlights our pilot programme in screening newborns for congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV), a prevalent virus that can affect infants in the womb. While the virus is often harmless for many, some infants face lifelong challenges.
Our initiative to screen for cCMV alongside the Universal Newborn Hearing Screening programme has facilitated timely treatment within days instead of weeks, significantly reducing the risk of hearing loss and other complications. This is a significant victory for us, as we continue to enhance the lives of newborns through early intervention and faster care and we are optimistic about the outcome!
Last year we won the Irish Healthcare Awards 2023 for Excellence in Healthcare Management. We were also highly commended for the Best Use of Information technology. A fantastic achievement demonstrating our delivery of the highest standards in patient care.
