The latest 8K cameras provide four times the performance of their 4K predecessors and from a range of 40 metres can provide effective pixel rates to deliver an area of coverage equivalent to a box 6m wide by 12m deep. If you compare this to a standard 2K camera that would be effective to less than 1m width, you can see how effective this latest technology can be in a range of use cases.
Not only would you get an increased area of coverage, for example in a street scene or a stadium, you could also reduce your camera estate whilst still maintaining operational effectiveness.
As one would expect, this level of coverage generates a significant volume of data and has an increased network bandwidth requirement. In a crowded street or stadium, imagine how many faces are captured in each frame – all needing to be analysed in a split second to provide operators with matches and probability values to allow them to make their decisions.
