New National Mobilisation and Communication System goes live in Ireland

NEC Software Solutions (NECSWS) has completed the first phase of delivery of a new National Mobilising and Communication System (NMACS) for the Irish Fire Service in just 9 months following award of contract, one of a series of successful new wins this year.

The new system will give staff and call handlers the latest tools and real-time information they need to quickly dispatch fire appliances to incidents based on their proximity and capability, ensuring fast and effective responses to emergencies.

The Irish Fire Service provides a national response coordinated from three regional Control Room locations, Dublin, Limerick and Castlebar, which take a combined total of up to 60,000 emergency calls a year. Previously operating with three separate mobilising systems this project will, for the first time, provide a single, centralised NMACS that will promote interoperability, resilience and mutual support.

One of the key drivers for this delivery was to replace the existing system to avoid the need for any further contract extensions and, through the dedication of the project teams and by using improvements made in the technology the first RCC has gone live within 9 months of the contract award with the further two scheduled for early 2025 – all ahead of the programme schedule. As part of the final phase officers will have our latest, fully-connected mobile solution to support their operations, reduce risk and improve situational awareness when attending incidents.

Fergal Stack, Head of National Mobilisation and Communications System, Limerick City and County Council said: “This is a major milestone in advancing our Control Room capabilities, ensuring that we remain at the cutting edge of Fire Control technology. The commitment and dedication of colleagues has been instrumental in reaching this stage. We are excited to see the positive impact that this new system will have on both our communities and our staff.”

Paul Eggleton, Business and Product Development Director, NECSWS said: “By working collaboratively with the NMACS team we have been able to deliver this first phase quickly to ensure that the users can transition to the new system and begin to realise the benefits that it brings to operations and the community. We look forward to the final phase and supporting this truly national system for many years.”
