Unity works partnered with Meganexus, an NEC company, to replace paper-based processes with a secure, accessible digital platform that supports learners, job seekers, staff, and employers. Using CAPTR, Unity Works streamlined service delivery, improved reporting and collaboration, and has already supported more than 50 users.

Creating a more accessible and effective support service

Unity Works, a part of Thera Trust, is a charity dedicated to supporting people with learning disabilities to gain skills, experience, and meaningful employment. Through training programmes, supported internships, work placements, adult learning, and wellbeing initiatives, the organisation helps individuals build confidence, independence, and lasting employment opportunities.

Managing these services through paper-based forms and spreadsheets created challenges for both staff and learners. Information was stored across multiple systems, making it difficult to track progress, coordinate support, and generate meaningful insights. As demand for services grew, Unity Works required a digital solution that could streamline operations, improve accessibility, and enable more personalised support for learners and job seekers.

CAPTR to support personalised learning and employment journeys

Unity Works commissioned Meganexus, An NEC Company to implement CAPTR, a web-based interventions management platform designed to provide a more connected and accessible experience for learners, staff, employers, and service providers.

Adapting CAPTR meets the needs of people with learning disabilities through intuitive navigation, visual aids, enhanced customisation, and accessibility features aligned to WCAG 2.1 standards.

The platform enables learners to create personalised learning plans centered around their individual goals, with progress tracked through interactive timelines. AI-powered recommendations help identify relevant learning resources to support personal development and progression.

For job seekers, CAPTR provides a secure employment portal where artificial intelligence helps match opportunities for individual interests and aspirations. Users can search and apply for roles, create CVs, and manage their employment journey from a single platform.

Staff can configure assessments, create tailored support plans, monitor progress, and generate detailed reports. Secure communication tools enable one-to-one support, while Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) ensuring sensitive information is only accessible to authorised users.

The solution also allows Unity Works to onboard employers and service providers, creating a collaborative network that delivers more coordinated and personalised support.

The Impact and Achievements

Since implementation in January 2025, CAPTR has supported more than 50 users across Unity Works programmes.

  • Improved service delivery – staff can manage learner journeys, assessments, support plans, and reporting through a single digital platform.
  • Better reporting and insight – custom reporting capabilities have helped the organisation improve workflows, strengthen programmes, and increase user engagement.
  • Enhanced learner support – personalised plans and progress tracking enable learners to take greater ownership of their development and achievements.
  • Supporting future growth – CAPTR is now part of the trainee offer and is being rolled out across Unity Works social enterprises to support reviews, showcase learner progress, and encourage self-advocacy.

The platform is also supporting the Unity Works’ Adult Community Learning programme alongside the Learner Track CRM, making it easier to collect evidence of personal goals, achievements, and learner feedback.

Ongoing evaluation will further assess the impact of CAPTR, including research being undertaken through King’s College London to review how effectively the programme supports digital inclusion and learning for people with learning disabilities.

Meganexus listened to the specific needs of our organisation and worked with us to ensure that CAPTR felt like our platform and was designed around our needs. Most importantly, it has allowed us to help more people, more effectively, towards employment, advocating for themselves to reach their goals.
