Salford Business School, part of the University of Salford, partnered with Meganexus, an NEC company, to accelerate the creation of high-quality digital learning content for business leaders and professionals. Using GENAIEour generative AI course creation platform, the school rapidly developed engaging, industry-relevant courses for its KnowDigital learning platform, reducing development time by 80% while maintaining academic quality and subject matter expertise.

Creating innovative digital learning for business professionals

Salford Business School is a leading provider of executive education, research, and knowledge exchange. As part of the Innovation Accelerator Centre for Digital Innovation initiative, the school launched KnowDigital, an online learning platform providing 24/7 access to interactive courses designed to support business leaders and professionals across the North West of England.

The objective of KnowDigital was to help organisations embrace digital transformation by delivering learning programmes that promote innovation, explore emerging technologies, and provide practical insights into how digitalisation is reshaping modern workplaces.

While the Salford Business School team possessed extensive subject matter expertise, developing engaging digital learning content at scale presented challenges. The school required a solution that could accelerate course creation, incorporate current industry trends and business contexts, and enable experts to review and enhance content before publication.

GENAIE to accelerate course creation and content development

Salford Business School partnered with Meganexus to implement GENAIE, a generative AI-powered course development platform designed to support the rapid creation of professional learning content.

GENAIE enables organisations to dynamically generate courses, modules, lessons, assessments, and supporting resources using artificial intelligence, significantly reducing the time and effort required to create high-quality digital learning experiences.

Using GENAIE, the Salford team can generate:

  • Learning outcomes
  • Course outlines
  • Module content
  • Images and visual assets
  • Learning activities
  • Audio content and voiceovers
  • Self-assessment quizzes

Once content is generated, subject matter experts review, refine, and enhance the materials to ensure relevance, accuracy, and alignment with the needs of business professionals. While GENAIE provided a foundation based on current standards, trends, and best practices, academic specialists enriched courses with additional resources, case studies, images, videos, and industry-specific insights.

Following expert review and approval, completed courses are exported as SCORM packages and published on the KnowDigital Learning Experience Platform (LXP), providing learners with flexible, on-demand access to training content.

The Impact and Achievements

Between the start of the project on 2 January 2024 and the launch of the platform on 31 March 2024, the KnowDigital team used GENAIE to create 13 online courses at Key Stage Level 4.

Accelerated course development – GENAIE enabled the creation of approximately one hour of e-learning content in just two days, reducing development time by around 80% compared with traditional course development approaches.

Improved efficiency and productivity – the platform streamlined the content creation process, allowing subject matter experts to focus on refining and enriching content rather than building materials from scratch.

High-quality, engaging learning experiences – KnowDigital developed interactive and relevant training content across a range of digital transformation and business topics, supported by AI-generated learning resources, activities, and assessments.

Consistent branding and quality assurance – all courses were customised and validated to ensure compliance with KnowDigital branding guidelines and academic standards.

Scalable learning delivery – SCORM-compliant courses were successfully deployed through the KnowDigital Learning Experience Platform, providing delegates with 24/7 access to learning content.

By combining generative AI with academic expertise, Salford Business School created a scalable model for developing high-quality executive education and professional learning programmes more efficiently than traditional approaches.

The collaboration between the Centre for Digital Innovation (KnowDigital) and Meganexus, utilising GENAIE software, represents a significant step forward in integrating cutting-edge technology within executive education and knowledge exchange environments. This partnership has harnessed the power of GENAIE’s advanced content development capabilities to enhance the educational experiences of the KnowDigital platform.
